Kidnapping: Police raid Aba black spots, arrest 50

By Ugochukwu Alaribe

ABA—POLICEMEN from Aba Area Police Command, Abia State, has raided some black spots and arrested 50 persons suspected to be members of kidnapping and armed robbery gangs operating in the city.

Vanguard gathered that the raid took place at Works Road by Railway, off Aba-Owerri Road in the early hours of yesterday.

Area Commander in charge of Aba, ACP Peter Wagbara, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects, added that they were being profiled for proper identification.

According to him, some of the suspects, identified as students of the Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, and other residents of the area found to be innocent had been handed over to the school authority and families, while those with questionable identity may face prosecution.

Assuring that the police were working round the clock to ensure that residents of Aba sleep with their two eyes closed, Wagabra urged members of the public not to hesitate in reporting suspicious persons and activities in their areas to the police.

He said: “Police will not fold its arms and watch unscrupulous elements truncate the existing peace in Aba.

“We do not want to be caught unawares and I want to use this opportunity to warn those who think that they will come to Aba to get involved in any form of crime to have a rethink and engage in meaningful activities because we will not give them the opportunity to do so,” Wagbara added.
