By Daud Olatunji

ABEOKUTA—Four persons lost their lives, while three others sustained various degrees of injuries in an accident that occurred along the Abeokuta-Ibadan highway.

The auto crash, which occurred around 10p.m. at Alakija village near Olodo in the Odeda Local Government Area of the state, involved a cement-laden truck with number plates YKS 194 XA and a white Toyota Picnic passenger space car marked (OYO) BDJ 427 SX.

‘How it happened’

The Public Relations Officer of the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement, TRACE, agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident, explained that driver of the Toyota Picnic Space car ran into the moving truck from the rear.

Akinbiyi, who explained that nine persons were involved in the crash, lamented that the driver of the Toyota car and three other passengers died on the spot.

He also confirmed that three other passengers were critically wounded, while the driver and motor boy of the truck, now at large, escaped unhurt.

The TRACE PRO attributed the cause of the accident to speeding by the driver of the passengers’ space car.

Akinbiyi, however, said the bodies of the victims had been deposited at the morgue of the state General Hospital in Ijaye, while those who were injured in the crash were also taken to a private hospital in Odeda town.
