Court restrains Onitsha traders from conducting union election

Nnewi—An Onitsha Magistrate’s Court sitting in Anambra State, presided by U. M. Amechi, has restrained the leadership of Uba Planks and Joist Association, UPJA, Bridge Head Market, Onitsha, from conducting the election of the association on October 5, 2016, or any other date, pending the hearing and determination of the suit

The Registered Trustees of Uba Planks and Joist Association, UPJA, Bridge Head Market, Onitsha Anambra state had dragged the leadership of the association led by its chairman Mr. Tony Chilori to the court, seeking to restrain them from conducting election of its new executives before September 18, 2016.

The suit was filed by Messers Donatus Echesi, Joseph Ifeadi, Jude Nwufo , Walter Okpala and Louis Ejinkonye, for themselves and representing the stakeholders, trustees and members of UPJA, Onitsha, against Mr. Tony Chilori, Chairman UPJA,  Odera Nwosu, Ejeagbo Godwin, Chukwuma Anadumaka and Rapuluchukwu Okafor.

The plaintiff are asking the court to grant among others, that the election of the association shall be held at the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent which is on October 18, 2016, having been inaugurated on October 18, 2012.
