Awka—CONFUSION, yesterday, trailed the emergence of new executive members of Awka Development Union, as two factions disagreed on the new leadership. The issue was already generating so much tension, such that the police had been put on the alert.
While the caretaker committee for Awka announced, weekend, the election of a 19-member executive with Chief Amobi Nwokafor as the new President-General, the incumbent, Chief Tony Okechukwu, insisted, yesterday, that no election took place.
Though security operatives and the government officials had tried to stop the election, members of the caretaker committee out-smarted them.
However, addressing reporters in Awka yesterday, Chief Okechukwu, whose first tenure ended in March 2015, said that there was no election in Awka, adding that the appeal he instituted against the Nwokafor group was still pending at the Court of Appeal.
