Rangers can prepare for NPL title celebrations

Enugu Rangers are a whisker away from winning their first Nigerian Premier League title in 32 years after beating Ikorodu United 2-1 on Sunday.

The victory means Rangers, who are now three points clear of nearest rivals Rivers United, must just avoid defeat in their final game at home to El Kanemi next weekend to lift the trophy.

Even a defeat could be enough for Rangers to end their title drought as Rivers have to win with a four goal swing to claim league honours.

On Sunday, Rangers took the lead in the 26th minute when Obinna Nwobodo scored with a long-range effort after spotting the Ikorodu goalkeeper off his line.

Nwobodo then turned provider six minutes before halftime when he set up Chisom Egbuchulam to tap home to give Rangers a 2-0 lead at the interval.

Paul Duke made sure it was a nervy last few minutes for Rangers when he scored from a tight angle to reduce the deficit.

However, Rangers held on for the win and they can prepare for one of the biggest party yet seen in the Enugu next week.
