Police raid Aba orphans’ home in error, arrest 16

ABA—The Police Area Command, Aba, Abia State, has raided a motherless babies home and rescued 16 teenagers.

The home, Queen Esther’s Women Home, located on 1, Nwala Street, Off Faulks Road, Aba, was said to be harbouring three girls and three boys, aged between three and 12.

Police were said to have acted on a tip-off. According to a source at the Aba Area Command, the owner of the home was away during the raid, but the police arrested an elderly woman identified as Rosemary, who was believed to be taking care of the children at the home.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Police Command, Mr. Ogbonnaya Nta, who confirmed the raid, added that on further investigation, police discovered that the owner of the home was licensed to run the facility.

He said: “A good Samaritan gave information about the home. Police raided the place and made some arrests but on further investigation, it was discovered that it was not an illegal home.

“The owner showed evidence that they had a license to run it. We commend the good Samaritan. Those arrested have been released.”
