WARRI—Deputy Chief of Mission, United States Embassy, Abuja, Mr. David Young, has said that the government of United States was worried about the huge revenue Nigeria was losing because of attacks on oil pipelines by militants.

Speaking in Warri, Delta State, when he led a delegation of US officials on a visit to the paramount ruler of Siembiri Kingdom, Delta State, HRM Pere Charles Ayemi-Botu, in Warri, Young said it was because of the concern that the US officials were meeting with stakeholders in the region to find way of resolving the impasse.

The monarch, during the visit, said: “My appeal to the US government is to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the insecurity problem in Niger Delta through dialogue.

“Following series of appeal and dialogue by traditional rulers and leaders of the region the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, NDA and others agreed to cease hostilities to pave way for dialogue.

“Some of the conditions given by the militant groups for peace include increase of the oil derivation from 13 per cent to 50 per cent and reallocation of oil blocs to Niger Delta indigenes, massive development of the region, reopening of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okenrenkoko and demilitarization of the region.”
