Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau has called on Nigerians to change their attitudes for the positive change envisioned by the Federal Government to occur.

Lalong made the call on Sunday at a Church service at Living Faith Church, Jos, to mark the 56th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria.

The governor, who was represented by Mr Jafaru Wuyep, the state Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, said it was not possible for things done the same way to produce different results.

He said Nigerians needed to change their ways for the change agenda to be effective.

“We need to change our attitude towards everything, including the way we view government and government property.

“It is unfortunate that people see infrastructure built or constructed for the good of all as government property and misuse them instead of protecting them.

“I was surprised when I saw an electricity project that was completed four years ago, all cables have been removed by vandals for a distance of over 25km to the village that was to benefit from it,’’ the governor said.

He urged the people to see themselves as a major part of government by paying attention to what happened around them and contributing to development in their communities.

Lalong said that the time was gone when government used to budget huge sums to celebrate the country’s Independence Anniversary in the midst of want.

The governor said government would rather use such funds to execute projects that would positively affect the lives of citizens.

He prayed that Nigeria would come out of the recession stronger and more united as a nation.

Rev. Jeremiah Abraham, State Pastor, Living Faith Church Jos, in his sermon, urged Nigerians to pray for peace in Plateau and Nigeria.

He recalled God’s promise to ‘’restore all the years that had been eaten up by the locust’’ and added: “God will restore all that we might have lost as a nation and even do better things for us.”

The pastor prayed for members of the three arms of government and asked God to give them wisdom to lead Plateau and Nigeria well.
