Speaking in an interview with Saturday Vanguard, Chief Umeh said “the blame should rather, go to the security agencies, especially the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services, DSS, that raised the alarm of security threats that Nigerians and the Edo people are not seeing in the state”.

“What security agencies have done in the Edo governorship election, is like what the courts have done in the yet to be conducted Anambra Central Senatorial re run election in Anambra state, where courts will give orders and counter and ask INEC to comply, whether reckless or illegal”.

“The courts and the security agents are interfering in election matters, courts give reckless and unlawful orders and expect INEC to obey, they are interfering in election matters in Nigeria, and it does not tell well about the image of the country, the case of Anambra Central senatorial election is an example”.

According to Chief Umeh “threat to security is what can be seen by anybody where ever it exists, it is not hidden, when there is threat to security you will be seeing skirmishes, all manner of crisis, violence and fighting in different places, but in the case of Edo state, there was nothing like that, we do not know where the Police and the DSS got the security threat that forced INEC to post pond the election, in Edo State”.
