BENIN—Edo State Police Command, yesterday, paraded 32 suspected cultists, robbers, kidnappers including an ex-militant leader, General Pere Ojune, who was arrested over alleged possession of firearms.
Parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, said that five notorious robbers and kidnappers terrorising motorists along the Benin-Lagos Expressroad were also arrested.
The CP also warned politicians in the state against politicising any arrest, saying “what we investigate is the criminal act of any body and not the party he belongs because as far as we are concerned, crime does not wear political party colour.
“What we only do is investigate any act that is suspected to have been done in contravention of any of our statues. Our concern is ensuring justice and we will not do anything to unlawfully violate the rights of people.”
Meanwhile, Pere said he is an Ijaw from Ovia South-West. He denied involvement in any arms deal or attempt to cause mayhem during elections.
He said that his younger brother was arrested with arms and he came to assist but was arrested.
