Polls: ABEOKUTA—The Labour Party in Ogun State has approached the state High Court sitting in Isabo and obtained an interlocutory injunction restraining the Ogun state Independent Electoral Commission and its Chairman, Risikat Ogunfemi from conducting the forthcoming local government election.
The OGSIEC, which had slated the election for October 8, said 17 political parties would participate in the election.
The Labour Party in its injunction dated September 27, 2016 urged the court to restrain the Commission and its Chairman from going ahead with the local government election.
While stopping the coming election, the court granted the Labour Party prayers, said “Interlocutory injunction retraining the 3rd and 4th defendants/respondents (the OGSIEC A and its Chairman) either by themselves, or their privies, agents or anybody acting through them from conducting the local government election slated for the 8th October, 2016 or any other date pending the final determination of this suit.”
The State Chairman of the party, Abayomi Arabambi who deposed to 13 paragraph affidavit , said the court has the power to stop the coming election.
