UNECA’s report vital to economy —FG

ABUJA—THE Federal Government has said the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UNECA’s comprehensive report on ‘Green Economy in Africa’ will serve as a vehicle for the promotion of sustainable, social and economic transformation in the region.

Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Mohammed, spoke at a seminar on Greening Africa Industrialisation organised by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, in collaboration with UNECA.

Mohammed, who also expressed gratitude to UNECA for choosing Nigeria as one of the countries where the project would be launched, said the report would serve as a vehicle for the promotion of sustainable, social and economic transformation in Africa.

She said: “We need to find a way to put less pressure on the environment and ecosystems.”

In his remarks, the Director-General of NESREA, Dr. Lawrence Anukam, referred to NESREA Act 2007, which mandated it to partner with relevant government agencies within and outside the country to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for Nigerians.

He said: “Through this partnership arrangement, UNECA prepared and launched the 2016 Economic Report for Africa, which is being studied today.”
