lagos—Nigerian Navy, yesterday said it had begun profiling names of ships and their owners who specialised in hoax kidnap attempts on the high sea aimed at creating false panic on the safety of the nation’s maritime domain.
Chief of Training and Operations, Rear Admiral Adeniyi Osinowo, spoke at the inauguration of 23 officers of the rank of Captains and Commanders, for the maiden four-week Command Level Officers’ course held at the Nigerian Navy Ship Quorra, Apapa, Lagos.
Osinowo who explained that the action was in line with the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ette-Ibas’s zero tolerance to maritime illegalities, said names of ships listed would be forwarded to the appropriate agencies for prosecution.
He cited an instance of a captain of a ship reportedly abducted last month, but was discovered during investigation to have been stage-managed.
