ABUJA—The leadership of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by chairman of the National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has reacted to the ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja on July 28, 2016, presided over by Justice Okon Abang, describing it as objectionable, questionable and strange in the history of Nigeria’s judiciary.
The party, in a statement by its spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said that what Justice Abang did was to sit on appeal over a court of competent and coordinate jurisdiction, adding that that has made his interlocutory order very strange.
PDP said the judgment of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was very clear that the National Caretaker Committee was duly constituted and recognised, stressing that in line with that judgment, the national convention scheduled for August 17, 2016, would still hold.
