Man, 35, docked for alleged N 60,000 fraud

A 35-year-old man, Joseph Daniel, was on Wednesday docked at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N60,000 under false pretences.
Daniel, whose address and occupation were not disclosed in court, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Okumiose Clement, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in April at Oshin Street, Alausa Ikeja in Lagos State. Clement said that the accused collected N60, 000 from one Oji Akachi on the pretext of procuring a Panasonic air-conditioner for him.

“But the accused failed to fulfill his part of the agreement he made with Akachi, the complainant,’’ the prosecutor said. He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. The magistrate, S.Y. Okunsanya, granted the accused N50, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum and adjourned the case to Aug. 22, for mention.
