ENUGU—Police authorities in Enugu State, yesterday, arrested a herdsman, one Ibrahim Adamumale, 20, in Affa, Udi Local Government Area of the state for being in possession of a sophisticated weapon, suspected to be an AK-47 riffle with 24 rounds of live ammunition.

Adamumale, who claimed that he is from Nassarawa State but lives at Hausa Quarters, 9th-mile corner, Enugu, was arrested, following a tip-off.

It would be recalled that the 472 communities in Enugu State have raised their alert level to red, following last Thursday’s dawn attack on Ndiagu, Attakwu in Akagbe-Ugwu, Nkanu-West Local Government Area of the state, where two victims, including a seminarian, Lazarus Nwafor and Ifeoma Agbo, died, when the herdsmen struck.

Vanguard learned that the suspect had released about six shots into the air to evade arrest, but was overpowered by the superior effort of the police and members of the public.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the arrest, adding that “the suspect is now helping the police in their investigations into how he came about the riffle.”
