School kids light up Lagos with dance, drama ahead Olympic Day Run

It was fun galore yesterday at the indoor hall of the National Stadium, Surelere, where pupils from Government and private schools in Lagos lightened up the venue with heart-thrilling performances.

The occasion was an appetizer to the Olympic Day Run celebration which holds worldwide tomorrow.

The Olympic Day Run is an Olympic Movement activity promoting mass participation of sports.

In his speech yesterday, the chairman of the Nigeria Sports For All Commission, Prince Henry Amike, said that Olympic Day ‘’is a day set aside for everyone to come together, move together and learn about Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.

The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of harmonious development of human kind with a view to promoting a peaceful story concerned with the preservation of human dignity. We encourage everyone to discover that sport for all is a physical activity that everyone can include in their daily routine’’.

Vice President of the NOC, Evangelist Solomon Ogba declared it open amidst thunderous ovations from the students. Dignitaries who graced the occasion include the second Vice President of NOC, Dr Fatai Williams, Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Sports, Mrs Tayo Oreweme who represented the Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung, officials from Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Olympians Enefiok Enobong. Atlanta ’96 Long Jump gold medallist Chioma Ajunwa, Falilat Ogunkoya among an array of stars.

After the Olympic Day education programme yesterday which involved cultural dance/dance drama, different artists and comedians would lighten up the programme, the walking and jogging aspect of the Olympic Day activities which will hold on Saturday 2nd July at the National Stadium.
