WARRI—A mob in Enerhen Road, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, set ablaze a suspected armed robber yesterday, days after angry residents lynched another suspect in Emede, Isoko South Local Government Area of the state.
The unidentified victim was caught at Isoko Quarters along Enerhen Road after he and four others had successfully snatched a bus belonging to a policeman along Enerhen-Udu Road.
An eyewitness told Vanguard: “He met his waterloo when he reappeared in the same area where his gang earlier stole a vehicle. Residents, who knew him, were angered by the impunity and plotted his lynching.”
The suspect, believed to be a bus conductor in his 20s, was said to have been stoned into coma by the mob before burning him to death.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Celestina Kalu, denied knowledge of the incident at press time, promising to investigate and get back to Vanguard.
However, seven persons suspected to be ring leaders of the mob, which lynched the suspect, were arrested by police, who reportedly rushed to the scene of the incident from the Enerhen Police Divisional Office.
Yesterday’s incident brings to five the number of suspected hoodlums set ablaze within three weeks in Delta.
