Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has told President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to his responsibilities, saying he was elected to protect lives and property. SSANU, in a statement in Abuja by its National Public Relations Officer, PRO, Comrade Abdussobur Salaam, expressed disappointment at the increased acts of brigandage and terrorism leading to the kidnapping of the Oba of Iba in Lagos State, Yishau Goriola Oseni, in the night of Saturday, July 16.
During the operation, two palace guards were allegedly killed while the wife of the royal father was reportedly shot and seriously wounded. “SSANU frowns at and condemns in the strongest terms, the continued criminal act of kidnapping by unscrupulous elements in our society and urges the Nigeria Police to do all within its capacity to ensure the release of the father of one of our Branch Chairmen, the Chairman of the Lagos State University Branch of SSANU, Comrade (Prince) Saeed Adewale Oseni”, the statement said.
“Beyond being the father of one of our own, as a King whose community plays host to the Lagos State University, Kabiyesi is the traditional father over millions of people in his domain. This desecration of a sacred traditional institution is the height of disrespect for culture which we must all decry. “We are worried at the spate of kidnapping all over the country and call on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the security of lives and properties are guaranteed, as this is a major reason why Nigerians voted him into power.”
