UYO—Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa-Ibom State has lamented that due to paucity of funds occasioned by the prevailing economic regime, his administration would no longer intervene in the erosion challenges across the state even when many streets in Uyo, the state’s capital get flooded and empty into residential buildings when there is heavy rainfall.

Governor Emmanuel bared his mind when the Governing Council of the University of Uyo, UNIUYO led by the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Kimse Okoko and the Vice-Cahncellor, Professor Enefiok Essien paid a courtesy visit on him but expressed optimism that the World Bank and the Federal Ministry of Environment intervention programmes would address some of the erosion challenges threatening the university and the state generally.

Assuring the Governing Council of his readiness to construct hostel blocks on the campus to ease accommodation challenges confronting students, the governor mandated the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang to follow up on the design and execution of the dual carriage way promised the university during her last convocation.

He said that the hostel block project had already been captured in next year’s budget for implementation while the ecological challenges threatening the university’s environment would be left to the World Bank and the Federal Ministry of Environment intervention programmes.
