A 35-year-old barber, Yemi Akinmade, was on Thursday brought before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing a wallet containing N15,000 cash. The accused who resides at No. 9, Hundeyin Compound, Idale, Badagry is facing a charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 15 at the Ajara area of Badagry. He added that the wallet belonged to the complainant, Mr Benedict Modum, who came to cut his hair at the saloon. “After the accused barbed the hair of the complainant, the former took the wallet of the latter, without his consent.

“The complainant was already on his way home when he noted that his wallet was missing and he came back to the saloon and saw the wallet with the accused,’’ he said. Uko noted that the offence contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Celestine Abasi, pleaded with the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms. The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum. Further hearing in the case has been fixed for Aug. 31.
