The Superintendent of the Navy Dockyard, Rear Admiral Adetokunmbo Akintola yesterday commissioned new boats for the Navy Sailing Club, Satellite Town, Lagos as part of activities marking the Muslim holiday of Ramadan.

Apart from the new sailing boats, the club also organised a sailing and swimming competition which saw kids compete in swimming and kayak.

Speaking at the commissioning of the boats, Admiral Akintola who was the guest of honour at the Dockyard Boat Race said the Navy was ready to support the efforts of the relevant agencies in realising the dream of getting Olympic gold medallists in canoeing and sailing.

Speaking earlier, Commodore of the Navy Sailing Club, Giwa Daramola said the club was determined to ensure the two Olympic-bound Nigerian athletes in watersports were given the best platform to train and bring home medals. “We are happy to contribute to the overall success of Team Nigeria at the Olympics, and we are ready to provide the technical and material support towards achieving that goal,” Daramola said.

Similarly, Chairman of the Navy Dockyard Boat Race Planning Committee, Ransom Dokubo said the next edition was bound to be a thriller as lapses noticed in this first edition would be checked next year.
