LAGOS—Respite, yesterday came the way of Mrs Okore, the woman who was detained by Bessylva Hospital and Maternity Home at Agege, after being delivered of triplets, following her inability to the bill balance of N35,000 delivery.
Mother and babies returned home after Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, paid N30,000.
However, the amount could not bail her out completely, as there was an accumulation of N30,000 debt due to bed space use.
However, a woman, who did not disclose her identity to the indigent nursing mother, visited the hospital and cleared the bill, with the payment of N35,000.
In addition, the woman, who was full of praise for Vanguard for the publication, also gave the nursing mother food and items for baby care.
Vanguard was informed that before help came, the hospital’s management had asked Mrs Okore to vacate the bed space, for another patient.
It will be recalled that one of the triplets, a female, died at the hospital for lack of care.
