Enyimba International FC of Aba succumbed 2-1 yesterday to Sundowns of South Africa in their CAF Champions League game decided in Pretoria.
The defeat has left the People’s Elephants at the rear of the log with no point as Sundowns and Zamalek occupy the top with three points each.
Leonardo Castro cashed in on a poor clearance by Enyimba defence in the 43rd minute. Enyimba equalised through Oluwadamidare Ojo in the 59th minute, and Wayne Arendse scrambled home the winner in the 79th minute.
With the loss, Enyimba are rock bottom in the group with no points having lost their first game to Zamalek of Egypt 1-0 in Port Harcourt. Enyimba’s next game will be away to Zamalek on August 14 and on August 23 they will host Sundowns at home.
Only a win in those two games and favourable results may guarantee Enyimba advancement. The South African outfit lead the group with six points.
