ABUJA—THE House of Representatives yesterday passed to second reading the Bill prescribing five years imprisonment without option of fine for any government officials involved in the embezzlement of constituency project funds.
The House in the Bill, also recommended that 2.5 percent of the annual budget be set aside for constituency project for every fiscal year to ensure that every constituency in the country has projects that would benefit the rural dwellers.
The Bill which got overwhelming support from members of the House, was sponsored by Solomon Adaelu who represents Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency of Abia State.
If finally passed into law, the Bill will lay to rest accusations against members of the National Assembly that they collect constituency project funds without executing any project.
