As Makarfi likens Sheriff’s supporters’ protest to early days of Boko Haram

ABUJA—Embattled national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has challenged chairman of the care taker committee of the party, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, to provide the names of All Progressives Congress, APC, governors as well as the date and venue he allegedly met with them to discuss the destabilization of the PDP.
This came as chairman of the caretaker committee of the party, Ahmed Makarfi, yesterday, warned that the forcible possession of the national secretariat of the party by Senator Modu Sheriff through the use of thugs, smacked off the early beginning of Boko Haram insurgency.
Makarfi’s committee had alleged through its spokesman, Prince Bayo Adeyeye, that Senator Sheriff was planted by the APC to destabilize the PDP.
But in a statement yesterday, Special Adviser to Senator Sheriff on Media and Publicity, Inuwa Bwala, accused the caretaker committee of taking instructions from some unnamed forces to work against the interest of the party.
He claimed that since leaving the APC at its formative stage, Senator Sheriff had no dealings with the party or any of its stalwart.
He said: “At a press conference yesterday, one Dayo Adeyeye, speaking on behalf of Senator Makarfi alleged that, the National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is being sponsored by the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress, APC, and that there was no court order granting him leave to operate his office.
“Ridiculous as it may sound, given the fact that right thinking Nigerians know that, Makarfi and the cabal that has been sponsoring him are merely crying wolf, where there was none, having come face to face with the truth, law and reality, it is imperative to state some facts, for the records.
“Makarfi and his sponsors want to create the wrong impression that Sheriff is not reliable, whereas it is an open secret that Sheriff has given credible and honest leadership to his state, to Nigeria and to the PDP, even for the short period he has been in the saddle of leadersip than Ahmed Makarfi.”
Meanwhile, chairman of the caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ahmed Makarfi, has warned that the forcible takeover of the national secretariat of the party by Senator Modu Sheriff through the use of thugs, smacked off the early beginning of Boko Haram insurgency.
Speaking after a meeting of PDP leaders which ended in the early hours of yesterday, Senator Makarfi said Nigerians would no longer afford to stand aloof and watch the activities of Senator Sheriff and his group as these activities posed dire threat to the country’s democracy.
