All three PDP governorship aspirants screened to contest Monday’s primary have resolved to work for the success of whoever emerges the party’s flag bearer.
The three screened yesterday by the four-man committee headed by a former Minister of Education; Prof. Tunde Adediran were Pastor Osagie Ize- Iyamu, Chief Solomon Edebiri, and Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.
Other members of the screening committee included Senator Abiye Sekibo, Senator Joshua Idaini, Mr. Ndubusi Nwingwe and Mr. Faruk Yahaya Idris.
Addressing journalists shortly after the screening exercise which took place at the party’s secretariat along First East Circular Road, Benin, the chairman of the committee, Prof. Adeniran said, the three men had all agreed to work for the success of the party irrespective of the outcome of the primary on Monday.
He also affirmed that the bid by Senator Ali Sheriff to reclaim the office of national chairman would not in any way affect the party’s chances in the forthcoming governorship election.
On the crisis in the party, he said: “We could see the handiwork of some people who are being used. We know what is happening, and the PDP will not allow those being sponsored to have their way. The era of imposition, impunity has no place in the PDP; the era of self-imposed leader is not in the PDP and our party members are working to uphold the internal democracy of the PDP”.
Commenting on the imposition of candidates, Prof. Adeniran said that the PDP has learnt its lessons from the outcome of last year’s general election, saying that due process would be followed and a level playing field provided for all the aspirants.
