OWERRI—Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has inaugurated a 135-member Elders Advisory Council, with five of the elders chosen from each of the 27 local council areas of the state.

Inaugurating the council Tuesday at the Government House, Owerri, the Governor explained that their role would not only be advisory but would also provide constructive criticisms for government actions and policies.

“Government has taken time to select members of the Council to ensure that none of them is in active politics or has any known political affiliation”, Okorocha said.

According to the governor,  the Elders Council must be independent and members would not only advise the government, but will equally offer constructive criticisms from time to time, to government’s actions and policies.

Governor Okorocha equally advised that the elders in the council would serve as a bridge between the political parties, elders across the nation and even between politicians within and outside the state.
