WARRI—NIGER-DELTA Security Watch Organisation of Nigeria, NDSWON, Ijaw Human Rights Monitors, IHRM, and Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, yesterday, insisted on a referendum to ascertain if the various ethnic nationalities of Nigeria were still willing to stay together as one country.

President, NDSWON, Dickson Bekederemo and Coordinator, IHRM, Fred Brisibe, in a statement after an interactive session, said that referendum had become imperative to redefine the controversial matrimony of the various ethnic groups considering the increasing number of insurgent movements in the country.

National President of IPDI, Austin Ozobo, said President Muhammadu Buhari should order a referendum before the country goes the way of Sudan and other countries.

According to NDSWON and IHRM, “There is the Boko Haram group that now yearns for an independent Islamic caliphate from the northern region. From the same North, the Shiite militia is increasing in prominence with its ambitious desire to rule over the country with its religion.”
