House help docked over N3.1m theft

Lagos — A 28-year-old house maid, Anna Payaro, who allegedly stole cash and property worth N3,142,500, from her employer, was docked before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.

Payaro, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing preferred against her, for the offences allegedly committed with others, who are still at large.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on May 27 at Goshen Estate, Lekki, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area Lagos.

He said defendant broke into the house of one Olatunde Adepoju and stole $1,000 Dollars, £500 and N300,000.

The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant stole properties worth N2.5 million from her employer.

According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under Sections 409, 305 (a) (b) and 285 (10), of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011. But she pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate A. T. Omoyele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum. She said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment and adjourned the case to July 4 for mention.
