Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, yesterday advised Lagosians not to panic over news making the rounds that the Niger Delta Avengers would launch an attack on some parts of the state, describing it as a mere rumour.
He assured that security agencies were on top of the situation. On the part of the command, he revealed that proactive measures had been put in place to counter any such attack.
Briefing newsmen on the command’s recent achievements, Owoseni hinted that it had begun a raid in Ikorodu area of the state which was rumoured as one of the Niger Delta Avengers main targets. So far, he said 200 suspects were arrested.
While screening the suspects, most of them, according to him were discovered to be members of different cult groups, with tattoo signs of their respective confraternities on parts of their body.
He said: “As I speak, there is no threat of bombing any police station in Ikorodu by Niger Delta Avengers. Earlier it was rumoured that the Third Mainland bridge would be bombed on Democracy Day. But it did not happe. Aside this, security agencies in the state are on top of the situation.”
