ONITSHA—A human rights group, Ndigbo Unity forum, NUF has called on authorities of Kano state police command to arrest and prosecute the killers of Mrs. Bridget Agbahime for murder, with immediate effect.
NUF said it was shocked that barely 24 hours after the crime against humanity was committed, the Kano state police command is yet to arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
In a press statement issued at the weekend in Onitsha, Anambra state, yesterday, jointly signed by its President, Augustine Chukwudum and Secretary-General, Chinedu Onyebuchi, the group noted that having read and confirmed through their sources that the gruesome murder of Agbahime, an Igbo woman on June 2, this year, by some Muslim fanatics in Kofar Wambai market, Kano really occured, NUF is disturbed that a law-abiding citizen could be nurdered in a cold blood in the 21 century over an allegation of blasphemy.
According to the statement, “it is a public knowledge that this is the second time an Igbo person is being killed under a week. Our position is that we want the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mr. Solomon Arase to mandate the Assistant Inspector-General, AIG incharge of Zone 1 and Kano state commissioner of police to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to book within the next 48 hours.”
The statement added: “Even though we know that no amount of money can be quantified with the irreparable loss suffered by the family of the deceased, we call on the Kano State government to compensate bereaved family with at least N20 million.”
