Former attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke

Abuja— Immediate past Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, has dismissed as the handiwork of mischief-makers the allegation that he was involved in the litigation that led to the payment of $1.6 billion judgment debt to the 774 local government areas of the country.
Adoke, in a statement obtained by Vanguard last night, denied any wrongdoing in the judgment, saying that only his office was partially involved as nominal party in the case.
Adoke’s response followed a petition by a group known as Civil Society Network Against Corruption to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to probe Adoke and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s involvement in the matter, which it described as a scam.
However, Adoke took exception to the group’s petition, saying it was taking undue advantage of the current corruption fight to pour aspersions on innocent persons and institutions.
