Lagos—A 59-year-old man, Maurice Fangnon, was yesterday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, over unlawful possession of offensive weapons and illegal assembly with others now at large, with intent to breach the peace, attack members of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, among others, at 119 Osho Drive, Olodi, Apapa and its environs.
The said address is the headquarters of MWUN.
The defendant was issued a bench warrant by Magistrate Olufunke Oshin on June 20, alongside former President-General of MWUN, Mr. Uzoije Ukaumunna and Ganiyu Ola.
The warrant of arrest was sequel to their failure to appear before the court after they were served summons over the alleged tension they caused in their neighbourhood.
The order was issued after police filed a charge before the court against the defendants for allegedly causing fear on persons in his neighbourhood.
During the arraignment, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate Oshin granted him bail in the sum of N300,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.
She ordered that one of the sureties must be a reputable civil servant of level 12 and show evidence of three years tax clearance to Lagos State. The case has been adjourned till August 28.
