A 37-year-old woman, Kosy Okafor, was on Friday docked before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing two kegs of groundnut oil valued at N7,000.

The accused, whose address is unknown, faced a one-count charge of stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 10, at the Ajara new market in Badagry.

Uko said the accused stole the items from the complainant, Mrs Tolani Afowoshe.

“The accused bought a keg of groundnut oil from the complainant but when she was going, she went away with three kegs of groundnut oil, instead of one,” he said.

The prosecutor added that the offence committed contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Anthony Makinde, pleaded with the court to grant bail to his client on liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N20, 000 and a surety, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned till July 7, for further hearing.
