Firebrand Enugu-based Lawyer,Ray Nnaji, Friday, slammed members of the National Assembly in both chambers from the south-east geopolitical zone for not raising alarm when the region got the lowest allocation for capital projects in the 2016 Appropriation Act before it was signed into law.
Nnaji, who was a former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP,was reacting to the revelation which emerged yesterday, from the National Assembly Budget and Research Office,NABRO,indicating that the zone received the lowest allocation for developmental projects to the tune of N28.22 billion for the five states in the region.
This was against the backdrop of persistent cries about the neglect and abandonment of federal infrastructures in the zone that are now comatic.
A breakdown from the NABRCO showed that North-West got a palatable allocation for projects in 2016 Appropriation for Capital allocation worth N73.7 billion while the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, got the highest, amounting to N209 billion.
Also, the South-West region got a total sum of N48.97 billion even as the North-Central region received a total of N47.9 billion.
When contacted,a furious Nnaji took a swipe at the members of the National Assembly, both House of Representatives and Senate from the South-East region saying,”the NASS members are not capable of being there because the budget was with them before it passed and signed into law.
“The lawmakers should have raised alarm when these things could be corrected. This shows that the despondency, neglect and abandonment will persist. The only way out is to wait for supplementary budget.
