A shop attendant, George Adeyemi, 31, was on Thursday docked at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two laptops valued at N140,000. The accused whose address is unknown is facing a count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 20, at a shopping complex located at Ajara area in Badagry.
Uko said that the accused stole the laptops from her employer’s shop. “On that day, his boss left the office very early; he was alone in the shop. `He used the opportunity of been alone to commit crime, he took away two brand new laptops from the shop and disappeared into thin air,’’ he said.
Uko said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty. The Counsel to the accused, Mr Idowu Awe, urged the court to grant the accused bail since the offence is a bailable one.
The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted a N200,000 bail to the accused and a surety in the like sum.
Etti ordered that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned to June 7 for further hearing.
