Awka—THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State has said that the emergence of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi -led caretaker committee for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at its botched Port Harcourt convention saved the party from disintegration, noting that many interest groups would have pulled out if the matter was not carefully handled.

Speaking with reporters in Awka, a chieftain of the party, Mr. Chuks Okoye, who recently emerged the secretary of the Chris Uba faction of PDP in the state, described members of the caretaker committee, which also had Senator Ndii Obi as secretary, as people with integrity, who would consider the interest of the party first.

According to Okoye, the first task for the committee should be to reconcile the warring factions in the various states to make PDP formidable across the country, enjoining them to pay particular attention to the Anambra State branch where, he observed, gross injustice had been perpetrated for long.

He said: “What we are suffering in Anambra is a case where some people want to bend the rules, but we believe that the committee will look at the Anambra case dispassionately and call a spade a spade, no matter who is involved.

“The national caretaker committee should do things right as this is one way of bringing back justice and confidence to the party and its members in the state.”
