The Lagos State Government through the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, has said that about one million pupils are expected to partpate in the 2016/2017 registration into the Early Child Care Development Education, ECCDE, and primary one in the state public primary schools.ici
The exercise was however kicked off at the weekend with a symbolic registration exercise by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Adebule, at the Police College Parade Ground, Ikeja.
Addressing the media on the significant of the exercise, the Executive Chairman SUBEB, Dr. Ganiyu Sopeyin, said the state government expected an increase in the registration in the current exercise because no fewer than 97,000 pupils were registered in Year 2014/2015 registration into the state public primary schools.
He said the present administration led by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode lays so much premium on the right of children to have qualitative and quantitative education in a conducive atmosphere.
Sopeyin noted that children that are in need of special care should also be registered in any of the 31 inclusive schools spread across the state.
He therefore, urged parents whose children are already six years and living in Lagos not to wait till the last moment to register their wards in schools nearest to them, stressing that the exercise is free in line with the state government policy of free education.
