FC IfeanyiUbah beat Niger Tornadoes 2-0

Two second half goals by Tamen Medrano and Nico Dao on Sunday gave hosts FC IfeanyiUbah of Nnewi a 2-0 win over Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this was in a Match Day 19 fixture of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The match saw the home side dominating possession in the midfield, only for poor finishing to deny them of converting into goal the scoring chances created in the first half.

Speaking later, team captain Chibuzor Okonkwo said the win was a huge relief following the pressure brought upon them by the midweek goalless draw with MFM FC.

“The morale of the team was further boosted by the presence of our club president,’’ he said.

The club’s president, Ifeanyi Ubah, was returning to the stadium stands after serving out a ban slammed on him by the League Management Company (LMC) in March.

On his part, while speaking after the match, Ubah said the win was a sweet welcome for him and lauded the gallantry of his players.

Ubah, who on Sunday gave N100 million to the club management to purchase players during the mid-season transfer window.

“I promise that things will soon positively turn around for the club,’’ he said.

Also speaking, coach of the Minna-based team, Abdullahi Biffo, said his team lost to a better side.

Biffo said the team had not performed satisfactorily in the league’s first stanza, and promised that the team would be beefed up in some departments during the transfer window.

The coach however lamented the club’s inability to play its home matches in Minna, saying “playing in Lokoja is making us miss the massive support of Minna fans’’
