Jos—THE Management of Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, has appealed to striking workers of the hospital to call off their over two months action in the interest of the general public.

In a statement issued in Jos yesterday by the Chief Medical Director, CMD of the hospital, Professor. Edmund Banwat, said the management had shown enough commitment to addressing the local demands raised by the workers.

According to him, “Management of the Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH has advised JUTH staff currently on strike to return to work in the collective interest of the public. We share in the pains the public is going through as a result of the JOHESU strike. Management is doing everything possible to ensure access to healthcare in the hospital, we have shown enough commitment by addressing all local issues raised by JOHESU while the national issues are already being addressed by their national body.

“Management had sufficiently brought to the notice of JOHESU members and all JUTH staff the federal government circular on no-work-no-pay as directed by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewale which was disregarded by the Union.

”The Federal Ministry of Health has reiterated its stance that the Chief Executives of Federal Hospitals should not unilaterally commit the federal government by signing any agreement with Unions, it is expedient to advice the staff currently on strike to return to work.”
