The Anambra State government has developed a blue print to ensure grass-root sports development in the state.
Towards this end, the Chief Willie Obiano administration is making concerted efforts towards discovering talented youths who are below 13 years in the primary schools and communities in the state.
The government is collaborating with Channels Inc Ltd for the 2016 Channels National Kids Cup Competition, in its drive “to catch them young.”
Obiano’s Senior Special Assistant on Social Media, Ifeanyi Aniagoh, who made this known in a statement yesterday, said that the competition to discover talented youths had started in six educational zones in the state.
The zones include Awka, the state capital; Aguata, Nnewi, Ogidi, Onitsha and Otuocha.
The statement read in part, “This competition is for pupils in the primary schools in Anambra State who are under 13 years. Practice is ongoing by different teams in their various zones.
“In view of this, the competition has been scheduled to hold as follows:
Local Government Competition-5th – 7th May
Zonal Competition-9th – 13th May
State Finals-16th-17th May
“Training/departure of state contingent to Lagos-20th May.
“The venue for the State finals is St Mary’s Secondary School, Ifitedunu. The Ministry of Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, MYESD, and the Ministry of Education…are poised to bring out the best in the children of Ndi Anambra; that they may shine out as the light of the nation.”
