Two labourers, who allegedly stole 1,473 litres of diesel valued at N191,490 from their employer were on Thursday arraigned in an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The accused- Sunday Akintade,35, and Adeyoju Oluwayemi, 37, who reside in Apapa area of Lagos Sate, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. The Prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused persons committed the offences on April 24 at SPG Depot, Olodi Apapa, Lagos.
Elibeh said that the accused persons conspired and stole the diesel property of one Agen Joseph. He said that the accused sold the diesel and converted the money to their personal use. “When the complaint found out that the diesel was short by 1,473 litres, he decided to report the matter to the police. “The accused who were employees of the complaint were interrogated, but they could not give any reason how the diesel got missing,’’ he said.
“Elibeh said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 285 prescribes a three- year jail term for offenders. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N100, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum. He adjourned the case till June 8 for mention.
