Lagos—Justice Aishat Opesanwo of a Lagos State High Court sitting at Igbosere, yesterday dismissed an application by Rickey Tarfa (SAN), challenging the jurisdiction of the court to the hear the case filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC.
Tarfa had filed an application before the court through his lawyer, Abiodun Owonikoko (SAN), praying the Court to quash the charge claiming the case was an abuse of the court process and that the court had no jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
Tarfa is facing a two count charge on obstructing officers of law from carrying out their official duties and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
At resumed hearing of the matter, Justice Opesanwo dismissed the application and asked the anti-graft agency to open its trial.
Owonikoko had argued among others that the authority of EFCC to prosecute was limited to only economic and financial crimes, which the alleged offences of obstructing officers of law and attempting to perverse the cause of justice were not.
