Akure—GOVERNOR  Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State yesterday raised the alarm that the country was heading towards a precipice following the unchecked activities of Fulani herdsmen.

Infact, he described the  herdsmen as “A monster threatening the nation’s security.

He spoke with newsmen after meeting with the state Chapter of the Oodua Peoples Congress OPC, to dissuade them from taking laws into their hands over the killing of their member, who was a security guard on the farm of former Secretary to the Federal Government, Chief Olu Falae.

Acting on security report that the OPC members were about to carry out a reprisal attack, the governor swiftly invited them for a meeting to restrain them from self help.

Dr Mimiko said that: “We have put in place a lot of fire fighting approaches in the last 48 hours to ensure that there’s no retaliatory attack from the OPC.

“There’s no question about the fact that this is becoming a monster of sort. I have had cause to express my view on this and I think we all ignore this menace as a nation, I can see us moving towards a precipice and we must do something about it, it’s getting dangerous, the audacity is very disturbing.

“These herdsmen must be called to order, these wanton destruction, audacious incursions into other people territory cannot continue for too long.”
