Yenagoa—Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, yesterday, described as “wicked and abuse of power,” the refusal of Bayelsa State House of Assembly to swear in the three opposition members-elect in accordance with the ruling of the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The apex Ijaw youth body berated the leadership of the Assembly, describing the refusal of the Speaker, Mr Kombowei Benson, to swear in the opposition members-elect as an abuse of his oath of office to protect the interest and dignity of the people without fear or favour.

IYC said that preliminary investigation had shown that the refusal to swear in the three opposition legislators was due to party rivalry and ego, “The continued refusal of the Assembly to swear-in the three opposition members is a sign of cowardice and has brought them to public ridicule.”
