The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated April 30 as International Jazz Day to highlight, promote, and showcase the diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe through Jazz music.
And to commerate this annual celebration, the Satchmo’s group has decided to storm Lagos with a five day event tagged “Satchmo’s Jazz and Culture Festival ‘’ bringing International jazz artistes from different countries into Nigeria ranging from Sunni Patterson, Rick Braun, Grammy Award-winning Norman Brown, Jon Scott, Carlo Rossi and the Organic Jam.
Also, at the event will beYemi Sax, Femi Leye, Imoleayo Balogun, Godwin Strings, and Saxtee.
Founder and CEO, Oludolapo Ajayi said, “This year’s festival will also embrace fashion, film and spoken word events, and it will feature the 2nd August Agboola O’Browne Lecture. The event expected to be the highlight of the festival will encourage interaction between art, business and culture minded people while providing non-stop excitement for all age groups at the Oriental Hotel, Lagos, Victoria Island between 27th April to 1st May”.
Satchmo’s Jazz and Culture Festival will take off with two Satchmo’s International Jazz day IJD Pre-Countdown events; the first on April 27th in partnership with Industry Nite at Oriental Hotel, April 28th at Blowfish where attendees will enjoy live music and floetry. The main International Jazz Day count down will follow on April 29th at Oriental Hotel. This event will set the stage for the UNESCO International Jazz Day Concert on 30th April 2016.
