BENIN—A governorship aspirant on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, Chief Solomon Edebiri, has lamented what he called the poor welfare of workers in the state, insisting that until a labour conscious candidate emerges as the next state governor, there would be no realistic welfare package for the workers.

Chief Edebiri, who spoke with journalists at his campaign office in Benin, yesterday, said that as a former factory worker, he understood the plight of workers more than any governorship aspirant in the state and promised to devise a system that will elevate and recognise workers.

The aspirant also encouraged Edo PDP governorship aspirants to avoid unhealthy rivalry among themselves and advised them to warn their supporters from making provocative remarks against rival aspirants.

Edebiri, who is also the President of the Nigerian Institute of Welding, said that the only solution to the plight of long suffering Edo workers was to have a truly labour conscious governor.
