ABUJA—The Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, yesterday, adjourned till April 11, to determine whether or not the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, should be allowed to inspect  the sensitive materials that were used for the December 5, 2015, and January 9, 2016, governorship election in the state.

Sylva, who is challenging the return of Governor Seriake Dickson by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the winner of the governorship contest, through his lead counsel, Mr. Sebastian Hon, SAN, applied for leave of the tribunal to scrutinize the election materials.

He had prayed the tribunal for “an order directing the Chairman of INEC and or the Bayelsa State Resident Electoral Commissioner to forthwith produce for inspection and or scanning and also to certify/cause to be certified, the documents named in the Schedule as ‘Exhibit A’ for the purpose of the petitioner/applicant assembling and leading further evidence which would assist them to maintain the election petition.”
