72 blind students risk ejection from centre

Seventy-Two students of Bethesda Home for the Blind, BHB,  located at 1, Agege Motor Road, Moshalashi, has called on the Lagos State government to intervene towards stopping their ejection from their home.

This followed an ejection notice by Mrs. Aduke Hussein, the Executive Secretary, Surulere Local Government.

Mrs. Chioma Ohakwe, the founder/President of  BHB, a Non-Governmental Organisation that provides formal education and vocational training and a home for the blind, mostly orphans, said the centre had been a bone of contention over the denial by the Executive Secretary to prepare the document of ownership at the instruction of  the former Chairman of the Surulere Local Government, Honourable Tajudeen Ajide, who handed over the school to the NGO on  December 8, 2013.

Mrs. Ohakwe said trouble started on January, 2014, after the impeachment of  Hon. Ajide, and  Mrs. Hussein started to demand for the document of ownership that was never issued by her despite  plea from the centre.

When contacted, Mrs Hussein said, she acted based on instruction, adding that the issue has been handed to the Lagos State government.
